KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:


TO ASSIST IN THE CARRYING OUT OF THE FOLLOWING FUNCTIONS


Legal Advisory and Support


Review of contractual commitments to be undertaken by the business, including general operational and banking contracts, transaction documents, credit applications, service level agreements, service contracts, lease agreements for head office and branches;
Negotiating amendments to contractual documents;
Highlighting of onerous terms not to be agreed to;
Receipt and consideration of legal queries, giving legal advice on such queries, obtaining external opinions where required and recording outcomes of legal queries.
Monitoring of legal risk in documentation and giving guidance on acceptable assumption of risk

Maintenance of records and retrieval systems with regard to statutory documents and legal agreements;
Complaints handling and record keeping;
Briefing external legal counsel on specific legal queries where needed

Product Review


Review of documentation, concepts and changes to products within the Group
Maintaining legal documents and change controls around updates

General


Ensuring that appropriate approvals are in place before documents are executed;
Assisting Governance and Compliance teams on an ad hoc basis;
Liaising with shareholders, directors, management, staff on approvals required in terms of authority mandates and maintaining governance structures.
