Lacuna is currently witnessing growth and is looking for a Socio-Political Research Analyst who will add value writing and analysing content as part of a to a dynamic, multi-skilled and passionate group of individuals. The successful candidate, based in Cape Town, South Africa, will work with the team, researching, monitoring and analysing political trends.

Primary Responsibilities:

Analyse large volumes of data daily through media monitoring to identify patterns, extract key insights and derive meaning.
Provide strategic insights on the South African and Global socio-political sectors, along with how global business, economic, security and geopolitical events impact these.
Work hand-in-hand with a Senior Innovation Lead in researching and delivering relevant content, building presentations, weekly newsletters and occasional reports etc.
Ensure text is well written and logically structured.
Ensure that quality is consistent with the company's tone and style.
Proofread and fact-check content.
Extract meaningful conclusions from abstract information, relying on systems thinking approach.
Actively contribute to client presentation documents.
Skills required

Analytical – can logically relate and compare data from different sources, quickly identify issues, secure relevant information and draw conclusions
Proficiency in Excel (or Google Sheets) and PowerPoint required.
Knowledge about South Africa’s political and social dynamics required.
Has a strong interest in International Political Economy and its impact on Africa.
Research – must be able to objectively research from various sources and identify pertinent information
Has the ability to observe both the macro and micro perspectives of a situation – i.e. can see the bigger picture but also pays attention to detail.
Excellent written communication skills – can deliver in written format the appropriate information
Excellent verbal communication skills – can convey information verbally to fellow team members
Flexible – maintain effectiveness in a fast moving and/or changing environment and with varying tasks, responsibilities or people.
Stable under pressure – can adapt to change and work to deadlines
Ability to work with colleagues i.e. Team worker
Reliable and takes pride in the quality of their work
