Catering and Culinary Training Coordinator

A dynamic and growing Education and Vocational NGO in Port Elizabeth is seeking a Catering and Culinary Training Coordinator to start asap. They will be responsible for the planning, administering, budgeting and supervising of the project’s entire catering operations and all student and staff culinary training and development. The project includes a school, hostel, community camps and the bi-weekly weekend market.

Catering Coordinator:

-Planning menus

-Ordering supplies and deliveries
-Hiring, training, supervising and motivating permanent and temporary staff
-Organising staff rotas
-Ensuring that health and safety regulations are strictly observed, recorded and archived
-Monitoring the quality of the product
-Keeping to budgets and maintaining financial and administrative records
-Designing, making and supervising the team assisting you to make the food to be served and sold at the weekend market to the public
-Supervising the cooking of the food by the students and staff at the bi-weekly weekend market

Culinary Trainer:
-Research suitable training material and design the Culinary Training Manual for the project.
-Conduct hands-on culinary instruction and assessment of the students using the manual you have designed.
-Document, report on and assess each student’s ability to comprehend, perform and retain practical information and techniques
-Work one-on-one with students to ensure comprehension of lessons and information
-Be willing to work with students from all age groups from 6yrs old to 20 yrs old upwards
-Recruit new and maintain existing relationships with chefs and organisations/ businesses for volunteer opportunities and fundraising and food donations
-Oversee the various ordering, set-up, and cleanup needed for lessons
-Maintain all administration of the programme’s budgeting, stock control, menus, training material and assessment of students theoretical and practical training

REQUIREMENTS:
-Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
-Excellent English - Afrikaans and Xhosa desirable
-Strong organisational and time management skills
-Decision making skills
Ability to manage in a diverse environment with a can-do attitude
-Proven record as experienced Culinary Trainer
-Patience with educationally challenged learners (English is not their first language)
-Strong leadership and motivating skills including the ability to build strong relationships with customers and staff
-The ability to think quickly, work in stressful circumstances and stay calm in a crisis
-Financial, budgeting, administrative, computer and stock-taking skills
-Knowledge of food, food hygiene (including hazard analysis and critical control points) and food preparation

ESSENTIAL:
5 years experience in similar role
Excellent culinary qualifications
Tertiary / Further education training
Excellent references
MUST DRIVE and have OWN VEHICLE
Must have own accomodation sorted if not from PE, the project does not provide accomodation
Have a passion to work in a community/charitable organisation
Be a motivated and dedicated team member who is passionate about the project and assisting / training the students for a better and bright future
